The Maternity Matters theme for this project surrounds the commitment to improve choice on how to access timely maternity care. Self-referral into a local midwifery service is a choice that will speed up and enable earlier access to maternity services.

Health Equity Audit of Access to Maternity Services with a view to the development of direct /early access to midwifery services
The aim is to grow a more effective practical model of commissioning where service user representation, maternity service providers and commissioners work together using the evidence already available to inform better quality commissioning based on both the needs of local populations and their current access to services.

South East Costal Bid - East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust
Establishment of a Perinatal Mental Health Network in Sussex (supported by a Specialist Midwife)
Clear care pathways and referral processes for all women based on individual care need, from a pre-existing mental health complication, such as bipolar disorder, to antenatal, postnatal depression or postnatal post-traumatic stress disorder requiring specialist debriefing, and ultimately puerperal psychosis, will be beneficial as it will provide an equitable, supportive, high quality standard of care delivered by the whole range of specialist services. It will promote health, reduce health inequalities and provide every child with an equal, confident and healthy start to family life.

Choice and access for vulnerable groups which will include learning disability, travellers, ethnic minorities and women where communication difficulties are apparent.
