Every Child Matters: Change for Children aims to improve outcomes for all children and young people, including disabled children. As many disabled children's needs are complex and cross traditional service boundaries, they are one of the groups who stand to gain the most from this change programme.

Every Child Matters is supported by a number of policies and strategies that should work together to improve outcomes for disabled children, young people and their families.

The CSIP programme contributes to the development of national implementation strategies as well as offering direct support to local areas as they improve and integrate services for all disabled children.

NSF Standard 8 Audit Tool

For disabled children, children with complex health needs and those in need of palliative care, PCTs should ensure that the right model of service is developed by undertaking a review to audit capacity (including children's community nursing) and delivery of integrated care pathways against National Service Framework, standards, agreeing service models, funding and commissioning arrangements with their SHAs. This audit tool has been designed to assist PCTs, and those partner agencies that offer services that are a key part of integrated care pathways, in gathering information to inform the above review and in responding to SHAs when agreeing service models, funding and commissioning arrangements with them.

Aiming High for Children

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, has published the results of a joint review by HM Treasury and the Department for Education and Skills into services for children and young people. Aiming High for Children: supporting families, will inform decisions in this area over the Comprehensive Spending Review period.

Improving the life chances of disabled people
